Installing window bars is another way to stop burglars from entering your home via your windows. There is a large selection of bars available to suit your budget as well as the style of your home. And since it’s very difficult to break these bars, most burglars won’t attempt to.
Option 3: Install glass break sensors.
The next option is to add glass break sensors to your windows. This way, anyone who tries to break a window to enter your home will be met with an alarm. Burglars want to get in and out without much fuss and because an alarm draws a lot of attention, it’s a great deterrent.
Option 4: Buy a hinged wedge or folding lock
If your home has double-hung sashes, a hinged wedge or folding lock is a great way to make your windows more secure. These locks are easy to install and prevent the sash from lifting to a point where a burglar could enter your home. To open the window, you simply lift or swing the lock aside.
Option 5: Switch to casement windows
If you aren’t opposed to replacing your windows completely, particularly on the lower level of your home, casement windows are a great choice. Casement windows are attached to the frame and open outward. Smaller crank windows can’t open enough to allow a person to enter through it. If they are, you can always remove the operator crank or install a chain lock or keyed lock along the sash rail.
Option 6: Secure the window via the tracks.
If your home has sliding windows, you can secure them by driving screws into the tracks or installing a metal clip that prevents intruders from prying the sash open. There is also a simpler option for installing a bar that you can lift up when you want to use the window. You can even apply these same tactics to basement windows if you have them.
